This memory from 6 years ago popped up and it takes me right back there. It was our first autumn in Colorado. Little man LOVED to walk. He would walk real slow, pick up every stick, point at every bird, and fill his pockets with rocks. 6 years later and still does all those things, but the walks are faster and the rocks are bigger. Autumn in Colorado still takes my breath away. #coloradoliving #coloradostatepark #coloradolove #mountainview #theygrowuptoofast
She has been talking non stop about all her new preschool friends. She is just so outgoing. She walks right up to anyone her age and makes instant friends. ❤️❤️
A couple years ago, I took an opportunity to attend a mental health seminar at @newlifechurch and I learned so much more than my little brain can handle. In one session, a retired teacher taught about the effect that modern lifestyle and modern parenting has on children. She focused on a few things in particular that I have hung on to and cause me to be more intentional in parenting. One thing she focused on was the importance of free play outside. Go outside. Be bored. Explore. Be adventurous. It opens the mind, encourages imagination and creativity, and allows kids to learn how to entertain themselves. If you get the opportunity to attend one of these mental heath seminars, do it! In the meantime, go outside. 🌲 #gooutside #goplayoutside #goodforthesoul
This girl declared “I am Queen Bee” and I said “yes, you are...yes, you are”. Then she said it was okay to also call her Mavie...or Queen Bee. #girlpower #littlefeminist #wraredoll #sassylittlething
What is the better view... in the mountains looking out at the city, or in the foothills looking out at mountain silhouettes? Hmmmm...the never ending debate. This view looks pretty good to me. #coloradolife #coloradoliving #wraredoll #mountainphotography
It’s been a busy week of business travel. It didn’t go quite as planned and I made up for it with several late nights and early mornings. On days when I feel drained physically and emotionally, I like to scroll through inspirational thoughts I keep on my phone to boost moral. Today’s food for thought came from a a wise Pastor when he said that life goals are a lot like flying by plane. There is a designated route that is the fastest, most efficient way to go. But sometimes storms and turbulence causes problems. The pilot doesn’t declare failure and return to the origin location, the pilot makes a minor course change and always keeps the destination in sight. The crazy work week is coming to an end and I will soon be loving on my family, leaving the busy week will be a thing of the past. Happy Friday! #dontforgettobeawesome
My little wildflower is starting preschool in a couple days. She has been practicing taking her backpack with her (everywhere ). She is going to love preschool!
I can barely keep a toddler alive, let alone a lawn full of greenery. But, I am not a fan of xeriscaping because somehow the blasted weeds always find a way. So, I might as well grow pretty weeds. After two bags of wildflower seeds, the 150 feet of fence line is starting to look rather colorful. #wildfowers #landscapingfordummies #easylandscaping #ionlygrowweeds #brownthumb #coloradowildflowers

Hubs and I have changed 8 light fixtures in just as many months. Well, I assist and he does all the important stuff. You would think we have the process down by now, but we still repeat the same mistakes over and over. I turn off the circuit...to all the wrong circuits first and then we have to go around reseting the router and the clocks. Hubs gets the old fixture taken down and finds the wire colors don’t match anything YouTube tells us. Then the new bracket doesn’t quite fit, so he has to go to the hardware store to buy parts. Even with the struggles, of all the home improvements we do together, this task is probably the one we do best together. I think that’s because he leads and I assist. Light fixture number 8 finishes the downstairs light fixtures and my vision of a light and bright space is finally realized. I told Hubs that I wanted to change a different light fixture...the one we put up 3 months ago...because I changed my mind. He just rolled his eyes. Oh and we’re playing musical chairs in here and I still haven’t found something I like. I think the kids are enjoying the hodge podge of chair options in the meantime. #homeupdates #modernlighting #diy #homeimprovements #happywifehappylife
Walk this way...
Just a sneaky peek of a home project I’ve been working on with this bunny toting, round belly tot.
I’m working from home today and apparently my job is so boring, my coworker fell asleep. I am incredibly grateful that my employer allows me a flexible work environment. My specific job does not mandate that I sit alongside the client, so my office is a cubicle, or an airport, or my couch...and anywhere in between. I know a lot of people that would rather poke their eye out than travel for work. And I get a lot of questions about how that actually works for my family. I usually travel about 2 times a month for an average of 4 days each time. 3 out of 4 trips occur during weekdays. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much weekdays because my kids are busy at school or daycare. My employer gives me some flexibility considering my time away from home and I use this flex time to catch up on home life of groceries, errands, etc. Today, I am working from home so I don’t have to rearrange my calendar due to a sick kiddo. That is my choice. I love having options! Also, my employer is pretty amazing and I get over 6 weeks of paid time off for vacation and holidays. It’s a great perk, except that my husband doesn’t have the same flexibility or ample vacation time, so I’m almost always on the hook for kid’s appointments. Today I am putting together project schedules, selecting carpet and paint colors, calling in to meeting, taking calls from vendors, and replying to emails...all from my couch. I have a desk, but I never use it. I use a small backpack to hold my office essentials. This little table is my only “desk” surface. It’s from Homegoods ($40 ) and I plug in all my electronics and perch my latte on it. When it’s not serving as a desk, it holds remotes and drinks for movie night. The pillows are from Hobby Lobby- they have the best pillows! These are down-filled with velvety soft covers. I bought these 50% off for $12.50 each. The selection is updated seasonally and I just noticed burgundy is available. I know where I’ll be at 5:00. 😉
Ames took our picture at church and I am impressed with his photog skills! This is typical Mavie...clingy and pouting for no reason. Hubby to Mavie: So glad you took a nap today. Miss Moody comes out when you don’t take a nap. Mavie: Who is Miss Moody? 🤷♀️ Hubby: Oh, Miss Moody is not a nice girl. She is cranky and throws temper tantrums. Mavie: I don’t like her. She’s mean. Hubby: So you gotta take a nap so Miss Moody doesn’t come out. Mavie: (looks out the window ) I see her! She’s hiding in a tree! Stay away Miss Moody!!!
The most satisfying feeling in the world is throwing the pillows on the floor and belly flopping into bed face first. #bedroomdecor #bedroomideas #bedroomideas #pinkdecor
So long 4-day weekend, it’s been fantastic! Ready or not, here comes Monday. #weartowork #businesscasual
Well, he’s going to have a hard time with corn on the cob this summer! At least his gummy smile is adorable.
Pretty excited to find patio chairs on clearance at Target. I loaded 3 into my cart and was picking up the 4th when a giant umbrella fell smack onto my son’s head. I turned to help him and hit my daughter on the head with the last chair. Quite a scene! Kissed everyone’s boo-boos and double checked the stability of the cart pile to ensure there were no more accidents...and headed to the toy aisle to put a bandaid on my Mom guilt. #parentfail
I have something to get off my chest. Here it goes 🤣. This is a view of the front room in my home, the first room a visitor walks in to from the front door. Yes, that’s a daybed. A little non-conventional for a living room. And the pillows and decor has been changed 3 times in 7 months. Because...I felt like it. 🤷♀️😂 Recently, I have been chatting with several different peers my age about their “forever homes”. OMG, so much pressure to make it just perfect. Perfection is OVERRATED! I worked with a Senior Designer years ago on a design project that I was having trouble making a decision about and she just told me “if you don’t like it when you see it, just change it”. Boom! Mind blown. Just change it! I was talking to someone about designing their “forever home” and they legit thought they were never, ever, ever, like EVER, going to make any changes. 😳 Can you imagine the pressure of designing a home so classic that it would withstand 40+ years of life changes (little kids, big kids, empty nesters, retirement, mother in law suite, aging knees... I could go on ), not to mention the evolution of design trends over 40 years. I read an amazing article about a home seller that built her beautiful home in the 60’s in all the current trends and never made a change to the interior design for over 50 years. The home was drenched in every color of pastel Easter eggs, period furniture, and even the kitchen had 60’s appliances. Pretty much the most amazing thing ever from an artist’s perspective. But WHY?!?! Design trends evolve. The seasons in life shift. Change is good! There is absolutely no need for perfection. I’d like to say I don’t follow trends, but I do...for inspiration. Just do what you like right now and change it when it’s not so exciting anymore. And if your home is not a stage home, feel free to do whatever your heart desires, regardless of how unconventional or non-trendy it is. The beauty of home design is that you can do whatever you feel like. Enjoy the process! Get inspired! Make changes! ❤️
Happy first day of summer! I love when I get pop up alerts of what happened on this day in year’s past. I squealed when I was reminded of this one from two years ago. She is getting ready for birthday number 4 soon. 😍
Working hard or hardly working?
This cannot end well. Not sure if I should break up the fun or just be happy that they are playing together.
Just a peek of the accent wall from the kitchen is probably my new favorite view. I love how the flowers pop against the dark background and the sloped ceiling is showcased in the doorway.
Walked in on the most adorable scene this week and my heart exploded. ❤️ Happy Dad’s Day!
Spring is just barely peeking out around here. Still snow on the mountain peak. Yet, all the feels of laid back summer vibes. Ahhhh, it’s just perfect.
So much going on in this photo! The determination is his face...last year he complained a lot whenever his limits were pushed. What a change! I see him encouraging himself and a huge improvement on attitude. He sets goals for himself to better himself. And those muscles! 💪🏻 He takes after his Dad...lean and mean! I peek mountains in the background. Aaaand...a camel shirt. 😂 He still lets me dress him and I’m pretty sure he enjoys what I pick out. Such a struggle to want him to stay little AND grow, simultaneously.
My little lady doesn’t get enough praise for her tender and tough personality. She loves rollercoasters and speedy bike races, but she also enjoys pretend play and dress up. It’s the perfect blend and she is going to accomplish great things some day. ❤️
King of the mountain and his adorable sidekick. ❤️
