As I began the long drive back to Ohio this year, I finally decided to make a detour to this special place. I was hoping to do some astrophotography here, but then I noticed a bright glow behind me, just after sunset. I had forgotten the moon would be rising so early! To my amazement, there was a perfect alignment between the full moon and this archway! This was supposed to be one such image, however I made a tutorial for a student last night for astro with this image and thought of posting it anyway. You might already have seen lot of similar compositions of this place so yes nothing new. A milkyway image I took to test the Tamron 35mm 1.8's astro capability. It's amazing how we sometime just ignore the power of a portrait lens for Astrophotography. A portrait lens with a star tracker can do magic. I love this place anyway so thought to make a quick stop while visiting Alabama Hills. The sky is tracked with 300s exposure, the foreground is taken just before the blue hour. As I arrived at the beach there was a weak green glimpse on the sky so I decided to leave the warm car and look for a good photo composition. So I stood there alone freezing in the darkness without anything happening for the next 20 Minutes. I was ready to leave as the sky to my left turned green and the auroa exploded. So I stood there for another hour shooting the night sky listening to "feels like heaven" and dancing arround on my own to not feel cold. Somewhere alone on a beach in the darkness above the arctic circle in northern norway. This was one of the best nights in my life.
