Taking it back to the Fall & a moody morning in the BC back country; just the faintest pink glow of dawn light reflected in the water!
Anyone who has ever photographed animals (or children come to think of it 😅 ) knows that you often have to grab moments, as your subjects often do exactly as they please with no regard for what you’re looking for! 🤦♀️ . . In this case Pixie & her new young sister Aeries gave me just one moment to grab a shot of them both sitting together & looking at the camera! Unfortunately, their environment wasn’t perfect & their leashes were in quite a tangle. Swipe through from the final edited image (1 & 2 ) back to the original unedited RAW file.
Thought I would add a bit of warmth to your day!! . . We are currently experiencing a deep freeze here in the Shuswap but a couple of days ago, I was in a T shirt in Death Valley!! I was in Vegas to speak for Nikon at CES & did a brief overnight side trip to check out Death Valley! What an amazing landscape! I wasn’t too well prepared for my visit so winged my way, but I understand the conditions I came across at this location don’t occur that regularly; water in the area that is usually dried out salt flats. I hope to revisit sometime as it often takes me a few goes to figure out a location.
Love nothing more than a good snow storm to head out & shoot in! (Swipe for the full image! ) Fortunately I have equally mad friends who will oblige as models! 😃🌨 @my .naturally.chaotic.life . . I’m finally home from a 30 hour drive through the States from Death Valley (that long to avoid some winter passes! ). Back home to an arctic blast of air! (Currently -23 ) but @jack_thewolfskin couldn’t be more ecstatic!!
Just the bubbles & me....this is what restless landscape photographers sometimes do whilst waiting for light to appear!! 🤦♀️😝 . . Our 30 hour drive home from Death Valley (detouring to avoid high mountain passes due to a winter storm ) is hopefully nearly over. We’re back in Canada & waiting for ‘Snowmagedon’ to hit us shortly as we drive the last leg home!!! 🧊🌨🥶
As there is soooo much snow at home right now, I thought this might be a good one to post: Playing around with snow & my flash. Thanks to @my .naturally.chaotic.life & @jack_thewolfskin 🧍🏻♀️🐺 Swipe for the full view & settings! . . I’m currently on the road back from Death Valley & Vegas! It’s a loooong drive with a detour to avoid some snowy mountain passes as there is a storm coming in tomorrow! Take a look at my stories if you’re interested in following along!
I am feeling the need to shoot some more intimate landscape scenes. When I look through the work of other artists, I’m finding myself drawn to them more and more! This little tree caught my eye, as the way the light was hitting it, separated it beautifully from the background. Swipe for the full view! . . I’ve just left Vegas & I’m currently in Death Valley if you want to check out my stories!
Some soft winter light & frosty shoreline in the Rockies recently. I do enjoy exploring those lesser known spots! I was asked recently if I could share some filter information with my images. I used a @leefilters 3 stop ND & .6 soft Grad for this shot! . . I’m currently in Vegas speaking for Nikon at CES if you’d like to follow along in my stories!
Mist on the water...one of my favourite things! Swipe for the full view! . . I’m currently driving to Vegas, left a very snowy Canada this morning. Check out my stories!
Jack in his best extreme explorer pose! Swipe for a bit of bts video...that wind was howling!!! . . I’ll be starting my journey to Vegas tomorrow to present for @nikoncanada & @nikonusa at CES so keep an eye on my stories! @jack_thewolfskin will be coming with me as well as my very supportive husband & we’ll be travelling in our van! 🚚
Shooting in wet snow, not my favourite conditions in terms of personal comfort but I really love it when there are snow particles in the air! Swipe for the full view & settings info!
I will be escaping the Canadian winter for a few days next week as I head to CES in Las Vegas to speak on the Nikon Stage. It is a huge privilege to share the stage with 35 incredibly talented photographers, many of whom I have followed & been inspired by for years! If you are going to be there then please do come & say hi, if not, you can catch all the speakers on Nikon Live!
Playing around with my new light. I’ve only had a chance to experiment with it a couple of times so far but hoping to get better with it! Swipe through for some bts info. It was a challenge shooting in a sub zero catio! 😂 . . Every Friday I try to do a ‘Feature Friday’ in my stories to share some shots I’ve enjoyed this week on IG. It’s been a busy day but I’ll try to get that post up shortly!
The Shuswap is recovering in the wake of a winter storm over New Year. I know a young pup who was more than happy to eat, sleep & play in it! ( @jack_thewolfskin )
2020 started with a snow storm here in the Shuswap. Feels like a blank canvas for the new decade! I know one of my goals is to look for more intimate landscapes to capture this year. This tree is opposite my house; it looked beautiful with fresh snow on the branches & mist rising off the fields. (Swipe for the full view! ) . . Have you guys set yourselves any resolutions, I’d love to hear?!
As 2019 comes to a close, I’d like to thank you very much for all of your support this year. I so appreciate you hanging in there through the twists & turns of my photography journey! . . I’m sharing a few more bts moments from some of this years images! Swipe through! . . 1: Sunrise in Yoho National Park. I loved this beautiful, mossy foreground. The bts video is shot during the blue hour whilst I was figuring out my comp. . . 2: Wet & wild! @my .naturally.chaotic.life braving some pretty soggy conditions as wind & spray were soaking everything, including my camera lens - a couple of clicks & I needed to wipe the lens again! . . 3: Ava holding still for a long exposure in the water. Not easy to do as the water laps around her. Video shows my skills at demonstrating just what kind of pose I was looking for!! 😃 . . #happynewyear !!! 🎉
Continuing from yesterday’s post; I’m sharing some bts from a few images from 2019. Swipe through & I’ll be happy to answer questions or comments below! . . 1. An impromptu shoot at dusk with @girafficus & @jack_thewolfskin . High ISO is due to the lack of light! There are always treats involved with any shoot with Jack & usually a leash that is cloned out of the image after! . . 2. A burst of unexpected light peaking through clouds on a frosty morning! This lasted just a few minutes & you can see my super unflattering pose for shooting this if you swipe through! . . 3. Another last minute idea; pouring rain made me want to shoot something backlit to capture the raindrops! @my .naturally.chaotic.life & @jack_thewolfskin were my soggy models. Flash is set a few feet behind!
As the year draws to a close, I thought it might be fun to share a few images from this past year with you guys. Swipe through for a little bit of bts info & settings for each shot! If you have questions, let me know in the comments! . . 1: Balsamroot blooming on the hillsides of Vernon, BC. I shot this one whilst out for a rainy hike with my husband & dog...always handy to have a tripod along! . . 2: Ice formations in Blind Bay, BC. I focus stacked both this image & the previous one to make sure the image was sharp from front to back. . . 3: Meditation in -16. A fun shot for yoga teacher @my .naturally.chaotic.life on the Icefields Parkway, Alberta
Ah winter...I love you! 💙💜
Frost flowers galore! ❄️
