Leeza SOHO, Beijing has received ‘Awards for Excellence’ from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in two categories: ‘Best Tall Building 200-299 meters’ & ‘Interior Space Award’. Founded in 1969, the non-profit CTBUH is the world’s leading resource focussing on the inception, design, construction, and operation of tall buildings and future cities. . Leeza SOHO tower for @SOHO_China anchors the new Fengtai business district - a growing financial and transport hub between the city centre and the recently opened Beijing Daxing International Airport to the south. . Adjacent to the business district’s rail station at the intersection of five new lines currently under construction on Beijing’s Subway network, Leeza SOHO’s site is diagonally dissected by an underground subway service tunnel. . Straddling this tunnel, the tower’s design divides its volume into two halves enclosed by a single facade. The space between these two halves extends the full height of the tower, creating the world’s tallest atrium at 194m which rotates as the tower rises to realign the upper floors with Lize road to the north. . This rotation of the atrium intertwines Leeza SOHO’s two halves in a dynamic ‘pas de deux’. Acting as a public square for the new district and providing varying views due to its twisting, sculptural form, the tower creates a fantastic new civic space for Beijing that is directly connected to the city’s transport network. . Leeza SOHO’s double-insulated, unitised glass curtain wall system steps the glazing units on each floor at an angle, providing narrow ventilating registers to draw outside air through operable cavities; creating extremely efficient environmental control for each floor. . Targeting LEED Gold certification, Leeza SOHO’s energy management system monitors real-time environmental control and energy efficiency. The tower includes an insulating green roof with photovoltaic array; 2,680 bicycle parking spaces, with lockers, shower facilities and dedicated charging spaces. . #SundayStaircase : the escalator stairwell connecting domestic & international departure levels within the new Beijing Daxing International Airport - great photo #repost from @imclumsypanda . . 6 flowing forms in the roof reach to the ground to support the structure and bring natural light within, directing all passengers towards a central courtyard. A network of linear skylights also provide an intuitive system of navigation throughout the building, guiding passengers to and from their departure gates. . Alleviating congestion at the capital’s existing airport, Beijing Daxing will be a major transport hub for the region with the world’s fastest growing demand for international travel. . Beijing Daxing will accommodate 72 million travellers by 2025 and is planned for further expansion to serve 100 million passengers and 4 million tonnes of cargo annually. . #BeijingDaxing ’s 700,000m² passenger terminal includes a ground transportation centre offering direct connections to #Beijing , the national high-speed rail network and local train services. . Echoing principles within traditional Chinese architecture that organise interconnected spaces around a central courtyard, the design guides all passengers seamlessly through the relevant departure, arrival or transfer zones towards the courtyard at its centre. . The compact radial design by #ZahaHadid Architects & ADPI allows a maximum number of aircraft to be parked directly at the terminal with minimum distances from the centre of the building, providing exceptional convenience for passengers and flexibility in operations. . 5 aircraft piers radiate from the terminal’s main central court where all passenger services & amenities are located, enabling passengers to walk the comparatively short distances through the airport without the need for automated shuttle trains. . Incorporating photovoltaic power generation, centralised heating with waste heat recovery and composite ground-source heat pump system, the airport implements rainwater collection & a water management network with natural storage, natural permeation and natural purification of up to 2.8 million cubic meters of water in new wetlands, lakes and streams.

#TBT : Bergisel Ski Jump (completed 2002 ) . Located on the #Bergisel Mountain in Innsbruck, the Bergisel Ski Jump was part of a larger regeneration of the city’s Olympic arena, replacing an older facility that no longer met international standards. Unlike the top of most ski jumps around the world where only ski jumpers can enjoy the views, the top of Bergisel was designed to be accessible to all – allowing everyone to enjoy the spectacular mountain vistas over the city from a popular café at the top of the ski jump accessed by two elevators. . The ski jump is a hybrid of highly specialised sports facilities and public spaces. These different programmes are echoed in the two different structures: a vertical concrete tower with cantilevered café, and the steel ‘bridge’ of the ski jump which combine into a single new form that extends the topography of the mountain into the sky. The Bergisel Ski Jump was awarded a Gold Medal for Design by the International Olympic Committee in 2005. . Morpheus @CityOfDreamsMacau has been longlisted as ‘Hotel of the Year’ at the 2020 @FrameMagazine Awards which honour the world’s best interiors. . Morpheus was designed as a vertical extrusion of the site’s existing abandoned foundations for a condominium tower that did not progress; using this rectangular footprint to define a 40-storey building of two internal vertical circulation cores connected at podium and roof levels where the many guest amenities were required. . Three horizontal vortices generate the voids through the central atrium and define the hotel’s spectacular interior public spaces. In-between these voids, a series of bridges create unique spaces for the restaurants, bars and guest lounges by renowned chefs including @AlainDucasse & @PierreHermeOfficial . . Working with @BuroHappoldEngineering #ZahaHadid Architects designed the building’s structure to optimise the hotel’s interiors. The world’s first free-form high-rise exoskeleton, its rich pattern of structural members at lower levels progresses upwards to a less dense grid of lighter members at its summit. . Lawrence Ho, chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts said, “From the very beginning, we shared ZHA’s vision and determination to push boundaries. Morpheus offers a journey of the imagination. From the curved exterior to the dramatic interior spaces, it pleases the eye and excites the senses: a contemporary masterpiece to be enjoyed by many generations to come.” . @TIME Magazine listed Morpheus Hotel as one of the World’s Greatest Places 2018 based on key factors including quality, originality, innovation, sustainability and influence. Morpheus was also voted @ArchDaily ’s Building of the Year’ (BOTY ) in the hospitality / commercial category while @PopSci Magazine included the hotel in their list ‘Best of What New’. . This year, Morpheus was named a winner of @NatGeo Magazine’s ‘Big Sleep Awards’ 2019 and also received the Prix Versailles 2019 for Central and Northeast Asia. . Southbank Tower #London has partnered with #ZahaHadidArchitects (ZHA ) to transform the tower’s lobby. . ZHA’s first refurbishment of an apartment building interior introduces a new mezzanine and lift, concierge and lighting for the lobby of the repurposed Southbank Tower. One of the UK’s most ambitious renovation projects, the 30-storey office building was completed by #RichardSeifert in 1972 and converted by #KPF in 2015 into a 41-storey mixed-use tower with apartments. . The lobby’s design by ZHA draws inspiration from the organic forms of flower petals that overlap to conceal the lobby’s lighting scheme. The fluid curves of the structure house the tower’s concierge on the ground floor, before peeling back at the top to reveal a new mezzanine level which serves as an additional lounge for residents and guests. . The sculptural petals in glass fibre reinforced gypsum and marble furniture pieces within the lobby are formed to precision in an off-site studio using 3D digital fabrication. This process minimises the duration of works in the lobby and disturbance to residents, while also creating original pieces at an architectural scale to a level of detail otherwise associated with intricate, hand-crafted design works. . Incorporating a colour palette and materials informed by the existing building, the lobby marries polished marble and concrete with walnut and leather. . Helmut Kinzler, ZHA project director explains, “The design has evolved from our work reinventing the spaces of art museums and galleries around the world; creating immersive spatial experiences for the Southbank Tower’s lobby that enhance the materiality and volumes of the original structure.” . Construction of the 200 square metre lobby will commence in early 2020 and is due for completion in summer 2020. .
The ‘Strip’ collection of vases by @ZahaHadidDesign for Rosenthal has been named ‘Excellent Product Design’ in the German Design Council’s 2020 Awards. . Founded in 1879, @Official_Rosenthal is one of the world’s leading producers of #porcelain tableware and items for the home. Creating timeless collections throughout its 140-year history, Rosenthal has also collaborated on acclaimed edition pieces with leading artists and designers including Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Walter Gropius and Werner Panton. . #ZahaHadid Design’s collections for Rosenthal reinterpret the relationships inherent throughout the studio’s architecture. . The ‘Strip’ collection includes three sculptural vases and two bowls of different sizes. A sequence of vertical strips with rhythmical offsets, the collection transitions their square base into a circular top edge. Metallic highlights between each strip generate an intricacy within each design.
#SundayStaircase - another great image from the #CamerasAndDancers photoshoot earlier this month at Port House #Havenhuis #Antwerp . Photo #repost from @jacobjonasthecompany ・ This fantastic photographic concept with dancers was initiated by @camerasanddancers and @laurazalenga - hosted this month at Port House in partnership with @portofantwerp @balletvlaanderen and #zahahadidarchitects . ・ ・ ・ Completed in 2016, the architecture of Port House repurposes, renovates and extends a derelict fire station into a new headquarters building for the @PortOfAntwerp , reconnecting the city with the vital activities of its shipping port. With 12km of docks handling 26% of Europe’s container shipping, Antwerp is the continent’s second largest port, with ambitious targets for future expansion to meet Europe’s growth over the next century. Working with heritage consultants @origin_eu , ZHA’s historic analysis of the fire station revealed its unrealised tower. Port House is a composition of a new volume that ‘floats’ above the old building, respecting each of the existing facades and completing the verticality of the original design’s unbuilt central tower. The new extension points towards the city, connecting Antwerp with the port on which it was founded. Surrounded by water, the new extension's façade reflects the changing tones and colours of the city’s sky. This perception of a transparent volume, cut to give the new building its sparkling appearance, reinterprets Antwerp’s moniker as the city of diamonds. With constant references to the River Scheldt, the city of #Antwerp and the dynamics of its port, married with the successful renovation and reuse of a redundant fire station–wholly integrating the old firehouse as part of the new headquarters–Port House will serve the port of Antwerp well through its planned expansion over future generations. . #belgium #architecture #zahahadid #zahahadidarchitects

Leeza SOHO #Beijing opens this Tues 19 Nov. . Straddling the new Beijing Subway tunnel that diagonally divides its site, the Leeza SOHO tower rises as a single volume divided into two halves on either side of the tunnel. A central atrium - the world’s tallest - extends 194m through the full height of the building and connects with the metro station below, creating a fantastic new public space for the city. . As the tower rises, the diagonal axis through the site defined by the subway tunnel is re-aligned by ‘twisting’ the atrium through 45 degrees to orientate the atrium’s higher floors with the historic north-south / east-west axis on which the city was founded. . The core and shell development of Leeza SOHO was awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The tower’s double-insulated, unitised glass curtain-wall system steps the glazing units on each floor at an angle, allowing ventilating registers to draw outside air through an operable cavity when required; creating extremely efficient environmental control for each floor. . Leeza SOHO is ZHA’s fourth collaboration with @SOHO_China to achieve LEED certification, totalling 15 million square feet (1.4 million sq. m ) of mixed-use urban space in Beijing and Shanghai. . #TBT : ‘Metapolis’ stage & costume design for Charleroi Danses’ 1999 performance choreographed by Frédéric Flamand. . Flamand’s choreography played with the transformations of the space; frequencies and rhythms, like strict codes of behaviour, were disrupted. The stage and costume design created a woven topology of different layers and materials that echoed the choreography. . Incorporated into the design were three translucent bridges, each with a 10-metre span, that were slid into different configurations by the dancers – in this way, he structure became like a breathing space, continually compressing and releasing with the dancers’ costumes becoming intermediate layers, flexible structures that extended the dance into new visual patterns and spatial interpretations; blurring the boundaries between performer and scenography. #zahahadiddesign #zahahadid #zahahadidarchitects
