Nova Scotia, you are something else.
The sunset last night at the High Head trail.
Almost 7,500 km of rocky coastline.
Ah, to be here this summer. Fingers crossed.
Wish I was climbing this.
When people ask where I’m from, I’m always proud to say “Nova Scotia, Canada.” #thisishome
What day is it?
“Life is not about finding yourself. It’s about creating yourself.” I find this quote from Bob Dylan refreshing and freeing. Why do we put limits on who we can become?
These lyrics from The Rankin Family speak for themselves. #novascotiastrong When the waves roll on over the waters And the ocean cries We look to our sons and daughters To explain our lives As if a child could tell us why That as sure as the sunrise As sure as the sea As sure as the wind in the trees We rise again in the faces Of our children We rise again in the voices of our song We rise again in the waves out on the ocean And then we rise again When the light goes dark with the forces of creation Across a stormy sky We look to reincarnation to explain our lives As if a child could tell us why That as sure as the sunrise As sure as the sea As sure as the wind in the trees We rise again in the faces Of our children We rise again in the voices of our song We rise again in the waves out on the ocean And then we rise again We rise again in the faces Of our children We rise again in the voices of our song We rise again in the waves out on the ocean And then we rise again
To all my fellow Nova Scotians, I love you. This is just senseless. Update: If anyone is aware of ways to help the families of the victims, either through GoFundMe or other crowdfunding means, or even directly, leave a comment or send me a message so I can share it on my story. It looks like the fundraiser for Cst. Heidi Stevenson raised a good amount of money, so let’s do what we can for all families affected. The link in my bio now is now for one of the families. I’ll try to update these as much as I can. #NovaScotiaStrong #portapique
Tomorrow marks the 10th birthday of our daughter Zoey. Her name means “life.” She changed our lives forever and shifted my perspective entirely. She’s so smart, witty and full of joy and love. These photos of her playing in and around a canyon creek in Alberta are one of my absolute favourite memories. Wild and free. She’s got the best of @ruthhailstone and me.
My escape used to be sitting seaside and watching the waves curl as they roll in, and the sky change colour from blue to pink. I’ve been stressed, as I’m sure many of you are too. I am dealing with the after effects of a flare up from palindromic rheumatism and it has left me in some serious physical pain. I don’t mean to complain but rather, I want to share how I’m doing with this community that’s been built up for years here in Halifax. Being vulnerable I believe always leads to better things. One new part of my routine is teaching my kids in the morning before I tackle my full time job (which I’m fortunate to have ) and that’s been quite a learning experience. Teachers deserve way more money in my opinion! I have celebrated 100 days sober which excites me. The pandemic tempted me to drink but my will remained firm and that’s one victory for me. There’s more going on with me but let’s hear about you. How are YOU holding up? What’s bothering you? What are your victories? I sincerely would love to read and hear from you.
Back deck portraits with the wildly intelligent Ruth.
It’s memories like this one that help get me through the day. Hope you’re staying safe out there.
