Rise and grind people, it's thirsty Thursday and we're here, with this lovely looking cuppa from @riocs , to remind you that the weekend is near. Have a beaut day, friends.
Newsflash: writing isn't easy!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Writing good content can be hard and it's totally okay to recognise that. Our girl, @georgiarickard , explains that if you find writing difficult at times, it doesn't mean you're not good at it... in fact, it likely just means you care. And there's nothing wrong with that!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tag a friend who needs this little Wednesday morning reminder x
Monday IS Funday! FROM WHERE YOU COULD BE: admiring the Taj Mahal at sunrise just like @katemeets . She's built a loyal following of over 100 thousand so it's easy to see why brands would be eager to work with @katemeets (and send her to epic locations like this one! ). But did you know that you don't need to have a HUGE following in order to have success on Instagram anymore? Brands will often collaborate with micro-influencers who have a dedicated audience that aligns with their target demographic. This means that it's quite possible to get paid to travel even with a few thousand followers. The key to working with brands as a travel influencer is to understand your audience and niche and be able to clearly outline your value to other brands... that's where your media kit comes in! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you want to learn more about how you can get paid to travel, just join us at the next Travel Bootcamp, we'll teach you everything we know. Hit the link in our bio for more.
When we sat down with our girl, Leanne Melody, to chat about her post-Bootcamp success she gave us this simple, but perfect, piece of advice for anyone looking to level up their career in this industry: "Invest in yourself. There's no better business move you can make than investing in yourself." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Take time to learn from others, attend courses, discover new things, push yourself – invest in yourself, friends. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brilliant advice from a brilliant human. Thanks, Leanne. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #YouCanDoThis
Sometimes, it's okay to have slower days, slower weeks even, there will always be ups and downs in business and in life. Give yourself a break and stay focused on your end goal. And remember that the path to that goal doesn't have to be (and won't be ) a direct straight line.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tag a friend who needs to hear this.
It's #FollowFriday and you know what that means... it's time to reveal our latest career crush! This week's Insta obsession is @daxon , the wildlife-loving globe-trotter who's been named by the internet as 'the real-life Doctor Dolittle'. Allan Dixon has successfully built a name for himself around his extraordinary animal shots and inspiring worldwide adventures. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He transitioned from a career in Computer Engineering some seven years ago and has now worked with some of the biggest global brands; Tourism Australia, Red Bull and Sony just to name a few. It was an animal selfie that went viral in 2016 that really built up the @daxon brand ( @instagram themselves even featured his stuff! ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Allan is an advocate for animal conservation and gives voice to those furry friends of his who don't have one of their own. With an astounding following of almost 700K, we reckon he's exactly the kind of Dr Dolittle that the internet needs right now. He's been a particularly strong voice for injured wildlife amid the Australian bushfires and raised thousands of dollars for animal aid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Allen proves that it pays to follow your passions, even if that means stepping away from your expected career path. What sets him apart from the rest is the way he wears his heart on his sleeve, he stands up for causes he believes in and he stays totally relatable to his followers. He's built an authentic and relatable brand and we totally get why he has such a devoted following. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Check out his page, friends. You won't regret it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All images by @daxon .
Quick sticks, get your first release ticket before prices go up. We've got some exciting Bootcamp news we're just about ready to drop and trust us when you hear what it is, you'll want to make sure you've secured your spot at this year's event.
Thirsty Thursday never looked so good! How nice does it feel to break out of routine and start your day at a crazy-cute cafe rather than stuck in your office – or worse, in a cubicle! Yep, sometimes it's nice to make a change, start your day fresh and do a little work, or journaling, with a good coffee and a slice of banana bread! Who agrees? Tag someone you'd like to work here with.
"People don't buy goods and services. People buy relations, stories and magic."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ People don't simply buy your products, they buy what's behind the brand – so, do you know how to tell your brand story well? Storytelling is at the cornerstone of everything we do, it's one of the most importnat skills to hold. Whether you're telling your story through words, imagery or video learning how to tell your brand story well is one of the most crucial aspects of business.
FROM WHERE YOU COULD BE: Snuggled up in this spectacular spot in the Austrian Alps just like @lumadeline , here. Seriously, brands often collaborate with travel professionals and send them to stellar locations just like this one. If you're sick of grinding at that 9-5 and want to spend more of your time exploring our beautiful world, join us at The Travel Bootcamp and we can teach you just how travel influencers, photographers, writers and bloggers make money travelling the world. You really can get paid to travel – and we can teach you how, because, well, that's what we do!
We recently sat down with Dana Williamson, AKA @wanderingdonut , to chat about what she's been up to since she attended the Bootcamp last October. Spoiler alert: it's a lot, she's been up to A LOT. We'll tell you more about that another day but for now we wanted to share this brilliant piece of advice she had for us: "It's important to take time out for yourself, to work on what you’re passionate about." She explained how she's turned down a few travel opportunities this year in order to work on her own business, take time to rest and recover and really focus in on the opportunities that align with her passions and purpose. It's easy, especially in this industry, to get caught up in the thrill of it all but it's important to say no to the things that don't serve you. Check in with yourself, give yourself time and work on those projects that really light you up inside.
This week's Sunday skies are brought to you by @urban_wanders in Ios, Greece. We're just about ready for a Greek island getaway! Who can relate?

It's #FollowFriday and you know what that means... it's time to reveal our latest career crush! This week's Insta obsession is @_aswewander , the pair of roadtrippin' beach babes that have taken Instagram on their tour of Australia with them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Their well thought out aesthetic and signature style makes their page a delight for the eyes. From pink lagoons in Western Australia to towering falls in the Northern Territory, they do a beaut job of showcasing some of Australia's most pristine natural spots. We reckon it's this totally dreamy aesthetic matched with their adventurous lifestyle that has drawn in their 35 thousand Instagram fans. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Want to know what makes us big fans here at Bootcamp HQ? You’ll see that they’ve picked their niche and they've done it well, like really well! They’ve associated their page, almost entirely, around Aussie adventure travel. We like. And as you know, we always encourage anyone trying to break into this industry to pick their ‘one thing’ and build their brand around that and they’ve done this perfectly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With a stunning aesthetic, clearly defined brand and beautiful images that showcase our very own backyard here in Aus, @_aswewander are our Valentine's edition of #FollowFriday . How much can you charge as a freelance writer? We're glad you've asked! Traditionally, freelance writers are paid per word rates with this price ranging from 10 cents per word up to $2 a word (higher for celebrity writers ). All media outlets have a 'standard' rate but you should know – editors will often be open to negotiating a special price with a writer, especially if an article requires technical writing, in-depth research or is unusually short (yes, you read that correctly: if a piece is usually short, like 200 words or less, you'll often be able to negotiate a higher per word rate for the trouble of writing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember that rates will also vary between national industries. For example, in Australia normal rates between 60-75 cents per word can be expected; in the UK 50-75 cents per word is considered reasonable and American rates are often higher – around 70 cents to $1.20 per word. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just remember, when you're pricing out your work as a writer, editors will be open to negotiating their rates depending on your experience and the requirements of the article. And don't forget to consider the outlet you're writing for as well as the national industry standards when agreeing to your pricing as this will all come to affect your final rates.

Say hello to Money Monday! This is where we talk the big stuff like how much to charge, how much you can earn, how to negotiate your rates and so much more. This week, we're talking about how much you can charge as a photographer when working for a client on a shoot.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As well as just being paid per image (which we've spoken about on Money Monday before ), photographers are also often hired to work on entire shoots, these can vary from one hour to multiple days. In this case, most photographers will work on an hourly or daily rate with a specific set of deliverables included. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How much you can expect to be paid will be determined by the type of shoot. If you're working on a commercial shoot you could expect to be paid upwards of $1,000 per day. Plus, all of the additional costs incurred, such as equipment hire, travel costs, hard drives and post-production work will also be covered for you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Influencer photography shoots work a little differently as working on a project or campaign will involve social media coverage as well as image licences. Influencer photography services usually include blog posts, Instagram posts, other social media posts and image licencing and prices will be determined by your follower numbers. For instance, if you have a smaller following of fewer than 2,000 followers you could expect to be paid up to $200 per day, however, if you've got a larger following of more than 100,000 followers you could charge between $500-$2,500 per day.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As you can see, there are a few things to consider when charging out your work. We provide you with even more insights into the industry at The Travel Bootcamp – our co-founders reveal exactly how and how much money you can make as a creative. So, if you want to learn more, join us at the next event in July. Hit the link in our bio for all the deets.
